The mission of Stone Soup is to:

  • Tell and share the story about Farm-to-School successes in Addison County.
  • Leverage the progress already made in order to facilitate further growth.
  • Generate and cultivate connections, and raise enthusiasm for Farm-to-School programming.

Stone Soup is an annual farm to school conference of about 100 people from around the county, including farmers, food service providers, teachers, administrators, healthcare professionals, parents, students, representatives from Middlebury College, local nonprofits, and other community members who gather together to talk food education. ACORN has hosted Stone Soup for six years, and each year the event showcases our commitment to network building and leadership sharing. ACORN Board member Emily Hoyler leads the charge to broaden our horizon deftly leading a geographically spread out group of organizers.

From Middlebury Union High School Alternative Ed students presenting their garden and greenhouse programming, to Green Mountain Farm to School hosting a Harvest of the Month workshop with food service and teachers, Stone Soup is an inclusive event for those involved in Farm to School initiatives.

There were many wonderful connections that contribute to Stone Soup's 2014 success, including RAFFL as a co-organizer, FEED expertise, and financial support through a partnership with Green Mountain Farm to School and the Vermont Community Foundation for its support of farm to school summits and Middlebury College.

Details for the 2016 Stone Soup gathering are coming soon!
